Villa of P Fannius Synistor at Boscoreale. Cubiculum M. Second panel from south end of east wall. According to Barnabei, this painting depicts a statue of Diana Lucina, the protecting goddess of the start of life. A plate full of gifts is in her left hand and her right arm is stretched out to distribute those gifts. She is within a sacred portal wrapped in white ribbons. From the portal hangs a bearded mask of a young faun and above is a lintel supported on the wings of two swans. On top of the lintel are two silver urns and between them is a round gold shield. At the base is a small red walled area with an altar with offering on top and two vases on benches. Either side are red columns painted with flowers and climbers. See Barnabei F., 1901. Room N: The ordinary triclinium.

At the rear of the left side of the peristyle opened a large oecus or a grand room, just less than five metres wide,  and eight metres long.

It had a white mosaic floor, in the middle of which was a rectangle of mosaic on an amaranthus background, adorned with white triangles with rosette in the centre.

The large opening of about four metres, which linked it with the peristyle at the north-west corner, welcomed the reflection of the sun and kept the warmth in the winter months.

The large window on the north wall, less than two metres wide, which opened towards Vesuvius and its countryside, gave fresh air during the summer.

It would have been this room, in which ordinarily the family would have eaten i.e. the everyday triclinium, (room N).

See Barnabei F., 1901. La villa pompeiana di P. Fannio Sinistore. Roma: Accademia dei Lincei. p.69-70.

Villa of P Fannius Synistor at Boscoreale. 1900. Room N, Triclinium ordinario on the north-west corner of the villa. Drawing of architectural scene painted on the west wall of the room. According to Barnabei, originally this room only had a single northern window, and it was coordinated with the architectural decoration. Then the window towards the end of the west wall was opened; and because of this opening the decoration was interrupted. This was also a Corinthian room with large painted peristyle, with admirable effects, as can be judged from what remained when this room was left. A podium ran around and in the corners were painted pillars and in the middle various fluted Corinthian columns. See Barnabei F., 1901. La villa pompeiana di P. Fannio Sinistore. Roma: Accademia dei Lincei. p.70, Fig. 16.
