VI.5.17 Pompeii. March 2009.  Atrium area.  According to Fiorelli this area was cultivated as a garden, but a later study shows this as “a pebbled pavement enclosed by a badly damaged low wall”.  Jashemski suggested that the low wall may have had a planting space in the top.  See Jashemski, W. F., 1993. The Gardens of Pompeii, Volume II: Appendices. New York: Caratzas. (p.126).
